Columbus Day Celebration
A Banquet is held every year by Federated Italo-Americans, during which a Columbian Award is presented to a Man/Woman of the Year. Usually held early October.
Again a hand picked committee fron our organization will pick a nominee to receive the Columbian Award. The criteria for the nomination is based on the following guidelines: nominees must have been born in America, of Italian extraction, recognized for his/her achievements in the business world and given luster to Italy and to the Italo-American community. The second nominee must have served honorably, on behalf of our community and promoted goodwill, through his/her efforts.
After the banquet, a public event will be held for Columbus, the man who discovered America for the Spanish Crown, in a wreath placing ceremony, which is held at the Christopher Columbus Monument located in the Los Angeles County Mall.
